How to play video games in the living room at night?

In our house ( unfortunately ) we can only have 1 TV in the house, and that's in the living room. during the summer i pretty much live in the living room ( pun intended ). i'm not allowed to play games after 8:00 p.m. and i really want to because what i want to play is new. all my father has to do is open the door and walk 5 feet before he can see the light from the TV, no matter how bright the settings are. should i set up a trap or something?
