At what age did you stop putting your kids to bed until they were asleep?

My partner has to pretend to sleep in the bed with his 4 yo ti get her to sleep and she wont sleep without thinking someones in bed with her, come she has come in to sleep with us in our room. What age did you let them fall asleep alone?
