What is the "God particle"?
You should not try to understand it from the physics point of view, unless you aim to, or are studying to be a physicist. Just try to think of it in terms of the 'something from nothing' principle, from which came the Big Bang. The 'God Particle' when it is found and understood, will go a long way towards an explanation of how there was nothing, no space, time or matter, and then suddenly, there was! The 'God Particle' is the one that is somehow able to acquire mass. These are difficult events and circumstances for even physicists to comprehend, so you and I don't have much chance of doing so. The best we can do is try to follow and take in a little of each part of the sequence, and from that we may obtain a general acceptance of the whole.
