Why do people consider Barry Sanders the all time great?
Yes, he was a dazzling runner. However, he couldn't get short yardage to save his life. He also lost a record most yardage from scrimmage than any other player in history. He couldn't run between the tackles, couldn't block and wasn't all that great at receiving either. He never had a good performance in a playoff outside of Detroit and he, too, is mistakenly believed to be surrounded by a bad team, when in fact, in 1991 alone, 7 Lions made the pro bowl. I'll give him top 5 just because he was an elusive, brilliant runner, but as an all around back, he simply can't get my number 1 vote.
