Is Rory McIlroy potentially the best golfer ever?
As Rory is only 22 and has shot 9 under par 63 in the Open Championship at St Andrews, 7 under par 65 in his third appearance at the US Masters and has already won on the European Tour and the PGA Tour. And Rory was actually 16 under for rounds 1, 2 and 4 at last year's Open Championship. So if he had a good round n the second round then he would have probably shot 18 under or less and could have beat Tiger Woods's 19 under total at St Andrews in 2000 as Rory had shot in the 60s every time he played the Old Course before he shot that 80 in atrocious weather. All of the young guns look very exciting to be fair ie Ishikawa, Fowler, Matsuyama and Manassero etc. The future looks bright. Once Rory wins that first elusive Major then there will be no stoppping him. I also think he will conquer Woods' record of 18 under 270 at Augusta in future. He could have even did it this year if he holed some of those easy putts he missed in the second round especially. Although Augusta is a totally different course from what it was in 1997 when Tiger beat Nicklaus and Floyd's record of 17 under 271.
